1847 - 1896
Hiram Hyatt was the son of Elisha John Hyatt, Sr. and Martha A. Beasley McJunkin. Hiram received his education at Vincennes. He worked with his father in the pork packing business and later took a position in the Hyatt and Levings Bank as a bookkeeper. After the bank failed, he went into the grain and lumber business with his brother-in-law, Hugh Rogers. He was appointed trustee of his father’s large estate and died just as he was finishing the settlement and distribution of it. He married Emma Blanch Van Trees on February 11, 1873, and together they raised three children: William (1875-1974), Sarah (1876-1976), and Harry (1878-1903).
